For school IT.
A teacher would like to use Extra Credit, a free set of math games, on school tablets. This page lists what to allow and what the app collects. The app is in a free test. Send it this link: https://extracreditmath.org/teachers/it
What to allow.
- App name
- Extra Credit: Math Games. Choordinator LLC makes Extra Credit. The one app holds all the games.
- Where to get it
- Extra Credit is in a free test and is not in the app stores yet. Write to support@choordinator.com to get on the test. We will tell you when it reaches the stores.
- The app's Android ID
- com.tacticalmullet.pushback. This is the name Android uses to tell apps apart. It has "pushback" in it because it comes from an earlier name for the app, and it never changes. Pushback is now one of the games in the app.
- Allow for the tablets
- extracreditmath.org. This is the address the app talks to, to back up saves and join a class. If it is blocked, the app cannot back up saves or join a class. Older versions of the app also used homeroom-nine-omega.vercel.app. Allow that one too only if a tablet has an old test version.
- Allow for teachers
- extracreditmath.org, in any modern browser. Teachers make their class and sign in here with their school email. It is the same address the tablets use, so one rule covers both.
- Accounts on tablets
- None. A teacher sets each tablet up with one class code; a student taps their name and two secret pictures. No accounts, no passwords.
What the games collect.
- No ads, no third-party analytics, no tracking, no crash reporting and no third-party software in the games.
- No advertising id or hardware id, and no location. The games never ask for location permission.
- Each install gets a random id made by our server. From the first launch the app backs up its save under that id. The save holds game progress, settings, the game's own record of which facts were answered right or wrong, and play time. No name, email or photo.
- Which levels were played, won or lost, how long they took, and which upgrades and power-ups were used, under the install's random id, so we can tune the games.
- Individual math answers (the problem, the answer, right or wrong, and the time taken) are sent only after a parent or teacher links the app. A teacher does this for the class by putting the student's first name on the roster. A parent does it on extracreditmath.org with the save code.
- The speaker button on each question reads it out loud with the voice built into the device. The game sends us no audio and records no voice. The answer record notes only whether a question was read out loud.
- Students cannot chat, and nobody sees a child's information except the child's teacher or parent, and us when we help with support.
Privacy and COPPA, in short.
We designed the games and the Extra Credit website to meet the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). A teacher puts each student on the class roster before any answers are kept. We never sell or share information, and we use it only to run the games and show the teacher progress. A teacher can delete a student's record, and we delete it on request. The full policy is at extracreditmath.org/privacy.
